Abstract :
The penetration of mobile and wireless solutions in construction industry, namely on construction sites, has been rather low compared to other industrial sectors. Past efforts in introducing fully mobile solutions on construction sites have failed due to a too narrow focus on certain technologies. In this paper a wireless solution for performing mobile construction site acceptance with wearable computing is proposed. The approach is user-centric, while benefiting of the most innovative mobile technology and standards currently available. Representatively, a mobile application for electronic construction site acceptance has been developed, implemented and tested. For these purposes a mobile hardware & software infrastructure was set up and a "mobile demonstrator" developed, serving as input for a design roadmap. The main results of this paper are based on the German "mobilmedia" key project MOBIKO.
