Abstract
This paper presents the design of eddy current brake for a rail vehicle training set. The brake uses three-phase linear induction motor to induce the eddy current on the rail and finally bring to produce the electromechanical brake force. The results of the prototype eddy current brake show the performance of the brake. It could be quickly reduced braking distance when compared to the mechanical brake. Although, the problem of hot rail from eddy-current are still exist but however the advantage of the electromechanical force is when the train run on the ramp rail.
