Abstract
The authors discuss the morphological computer-aided design (MCAD) tool, an interactive graphics environment that facilitates morphological image analysis. This tool allows an image analyst to visualize the effects of a variety of morphological operators on binary images. This allows the user to rapidly investigate many different morphological algorithms with a minimum of effort, because the time needed to solve complex imaging tasks is reduced. The MCAD software environment is easily extended to include new morphological operators. The software is implemented in C and uses the X Windows-based Athena widgets toolkit to define the graphical interface. The software operates on both SUN and DEC workstations
