  • Abstract
In third generation telecommunication mobile communication system, signaling requirements due to location updates and paging are expected to be noteworthy, mainly due to increasing number of mobile users. Location management (LM) is marked by the trade-off between the amount of location updates and the amount of paging loads that will be incurred onto the system. In this work, a hybrid simulation platform is set up to study and analyze the effects of parameters such as the size of various registration areas have on a R99 Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS), of which are related to the level of interference to be incurred by the system. The results obtained provide an insight on the performance of the LM design and varying degrees of changes in the updating and paging loads for varying sizes of registration areas.
