Abstract :
Military Specification 105D offers a method for selecting sample plans for quality audits. It is limited in the number of plans offered and the ranges of producer´s risk and quality that can be selected. It provides no means or criteria for combining lots, or for selecting optimal plans. The authors offer a methodology to extend the specification to more sample plans, lower producer´s risk, raise quality levels, and lower proportional samples, and present statistical justification for combining or subdividing lots. An actual implementation is discussed which can be used to automate the application of the extended standard. Extended tables are provided which permit the user to also implement the methodology manually. The result of application, manual or automatic, results in smaller samples from larger lots, which reduced cost by up to six times from that of MIL SPEC 105D for the same quality level and producer´s risk
