  • Abstract
    This paper investigates a five-phase in-wheel outer-rotor permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) for electric vehicles (EVs). New materials like soft magnetic composite (SMC) and amorphous alloy are introduced and compared with conventional silicon steel machine scheme in the design process. A 12kW prototype is built and tested, and the corresponding experimental results including the machine performances in no-load, load and fault conditions are reported.
