Abstract
This paper aims to provide a concise yet comprehensive insights in dimensioning header processing FDLs. We study the effect of header processing on the packet drop probability, by taking into account different FDL size and packet arriving parameters. Our results show that header processing may incur un-negligible packet loss even before the packets are routed, especially when traffic load and burstiness are high.
