Abstract
A modulational instability laser based on highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fibre (HNL-DSF) and an intra-cavity EDFA has been presented that yields a 260-GHz train of 370-fs soliton pulses. It has been shown that the pulses exist in the average soliton regime. This device could be used in high-speed logic gates and optical sources in the next generation of optical telecommunication systems.
