Abstract :
A large number of reservoir models can be created relatively quickly with geostatistical tools, such as Petrel modeling software, one of most popular modeling software in oil industry, but often, a limited number must be selected for input to flow simulation because of computational time requirements. Ranking models based on some simple measure that (ideally) is highly correlated to the flow response variables of interest is a way to select typical models. However, many commercial reservoir modeling software packages do not implement ranking. Using Petrel´s Ocean API, the ranking engine has been written as Petrel plugin. This allows Petrel users to rank reservoir models in Petrel and select limited representative ones for flow simulation.
