  • Abstract
In this paper we studied the problem of optimal relay placement in a IEEE 802.16j based multihop relay network. Such networks support heterogeneous traffic and our aim in relay placement is to satisfy real time traffic rate requirements while maximizing the total proportional fair capacity for the non-real time traffic. Considering the complexity of the problem we considered a tandem network with a single relay station, where the base station uses the relays to access all service stations. The obtained relay placement scheme is tested with a resource allocation algorithm and it is observed that it indeed provides good performance.
