Abstract :
This paper presents performance evaluation of a single-phase AC chopper fed three phase induction motor. The existing three-phase induction motor connected in delta can be operated with such single-phase voltage controller by connecting a capacitor across one phase. By varying duty cycle of asynchronous PWM generated from a dsPIC microcontroller for a single-phase AC chopper, terminal motor voltage can be adjusted. Performance evaluation in terms of motor input power factor and efficiency has been performed. In addition, comparison between the proposed technique and both fixed voltage of 1-phase sinusoidal ac source and fixed voltage of conventional three-phase ac source is also given.
