Abstract
We have experimentally quantified the OSNR improvements achievable with second order distributed Raman pumping, and the associated tradeoffs in terms of pump power efficiency. The results are very accurately predicted by a model using measured fiber parameters and taking into account the pump-signal and pump-pump Raman interactions.
