Abstract
In summary, we have reviewed the use of discrete and distributed Raman amplification for S-band transmission. Distributed S-band amplification in low-loss fiber improves the effective noise figure of the system. However, in multiband transmission, interband Raman scattering produces S-band power depletion and crosstalk, issues that must be addressed in the design of future systems.
