Abstract :
Summary form only given. We have successfully transmitted 8×10 Gb/s WDM channels over 3.4 km of free space using an optical repeater. The results show the feasibility of using optical repeaters in high-bit-rate long-distance free-space links. The use of an optical repeater increases the transmission distance with low power optical amplifiers at the transmitter and the repeater.
