Abstract :
Optimized machinability data is usually obtained from a skilled machine tool operator´s experience and intuition. An attempt has been made in this study to develop a fuzzy logic expert system for machinability data selection to assist part programmers and process planners in their decision making processes for cutting tool and cutting parameters. Based on a new diagraph method proposed in this work for machinability data selection, a fuzzy logic model is applied into matching the given material with those in material database. This work shows this fuzzy logic expert method is a feasible alternative to conventional procedure to the machinability data selection domain.
