Abstract :
This work considers the 1D modulation scheme previously introduced where the modulation of the effective value of the dielectric constant is achieved by varying the width of a microstrip line inside a layered structure. The variation of the line width is made in such a way to guarantee the desired behavior of the effective substrate dielectric constant. The considered microstrip line is repeated periodically in the transverse direction, in order to obtain a high impedance surface. This work studies the effect of this periodicity on the media parameter.
