  • Abstract
Giant current density is observed in special nano-granular materials - called Koops-GranMat -, which are clusters of metal nanocrystals of 2-4 nm diameter embedded in a carbonaceous matrix. Variable range hopping characterizes the mechanism of conduction from 3D to BEC-material. Around the nanocrystals surface orbitals allow the generation of excitonic states, which overlap to similar states of neighboring crystals. Possibly an e-h condensate is formed which allows at room temperature current density > GA/cm2 and field emitted currents > 1 mA ( Pt/C).
