Abstract :
A design model that captures both pure design activities and economic constraints is developed. On this basis, current VLSI design methods and their inherent assumptions are discussed. A new generation design support system is required to cope with an exponential technological development in an increasingly competitive marketplace. A new perspective on VLSI systems design is presented, in the context of developing ideas into competitive products, with emphasis on a designer-driven and interdisciplinary approach to design
