Abstract :
This paper considers the problem of finding the optimal sensor set in an unknown environment with many redundant sensors. In this paper, an optimal searching algorithm based on genetic algorithm is proposed during the initial planning phase in sensor network. This algorithm can extend the network lifetime by maintaining the same coverage rate of the network with a necessary set of working sensors and turn off redundant ones. The simulation output shows that the algorithm can achieve optimal node selection in the target area and improve the sensor ability of the whole network at a low cost relatively
