Abstract
In the event of gas leaks, and other incidents, data reflecting the latest pipeline configurations are provided. The mobile mapping system in emergency maintenance vehicles was developed to meet the work-site requirements. Information being continually revised can be obtained by accessing directly the maintenance center database via a car telephone. Data stored in an on-board CD-ROM are displayed on a monitor. En route to the site, the date needed can be obtained through communication with the maintenance center. This enables a maintenance team to be mobilized more quickly. A prototype of the system has been completed and is undergoing field tests.<>
