Abstract :
In this paper, we proposed a novel approach for simulating peer-to-peer (P2P) based application layer multicast (ALM) using ns2. This study also can be used in other simulations of P2P application. Simulation environments and approaches for evaluating and investigating overlay network or P2P application are very important. Better simulation result can accelerate research and deployment of new overlay network and application in P2P. Researchers can compare their works with other peoplepsilas research and find a way to improve it easily. We construct a simulation environment via extending ns2 for accomplishing above mentioned objects, through the modifying of application agent we built and generating of network topology using gt-itm embedded in ns2, metrics and processes in P2P overlay network such as delay, control overhead, node join, leave, failure and fault recovery, can be simulated easily and enough statistical data gathered. Finally, we simulated our recent work through this novel approach.
