Abstract :
This paper presents two- and three-dimensional inexpensive, efficient and electrically- small antenna designs that were first introduced in the works Erentok and Ziolkowski (2006). The three-dimensional version of these antenna systems integrates a semi-circular loop antenna, which is coaxially-fed through a finite PEC ground plane, with a metamaterial-inspired structure, an extruded capacitively loaded loop (CLL) element, to obtain the desired electrically-small antenna (EESA) system. The two- dimensional version is designed by combining a CLL element with an interdigitated capacitor. The proposed antenna systems are naturally matched to a source and can be scaled to a wide range of frequencies without any compromise in their performance. The performance of this antenna system is characterized with Ansoft´s high frequency structure simulator (HFSS). Experiments confirm these performance predictions.
