Abstract :
Beyond 3G system integrates various wireless accesses including 3G, 4G and wireless LANs and provides an all IP wireless solution for various Internet services. The ubiquitous and plug-and-play characteristics of Ethernet provide a unique opportunity to cover all access points of various radio systems. However, the mobile Ethernet still has the challenge of fault tolerance and survivability in migration to BSG systems. In this paper we propose a hierarchical self-healing ring (HSHR) architecture for mobile Ethernet networks. Based on the proposed heuristic algorithm called resilient cycle (R-cycle), fast automatic protection switching on the order of milliseconds, often in sub-50 ms, can be achieved in distributed resilience Ethernet rings. This paper also describes an implementation of R-cycle algorithm on our 10 Gbps network processor based multi-service Ethernet platform. It is shown that in the hierarchical self-healing ring (HSHR) architecture satisfactory performance and deterministic fast recovery can be guaranteed based on the proposed R-cycle algorithm
