Abstract
This paper proposes the speed control of a PM DC motor using ANN. The novelty of this paper lies in the application of Neural Network. The performance of the proposed system; ANN Based speed control of a PM DC motor drive has been compared with the PI based speed control of a PM DC motor drive. The entire system has been modeled using MATLAB 7.1 tool box. It has been found that the comparative results indicate that the ANN-based system is clearly superior, particularly in the case of parameter variations and load disturbances, because of the online weights and biases updating feature of the ANN.
