Abstract :
This paper deals three types of switched reluctance motors (SRMs) for fan drive. The three types considered are 6/4, 12/8 and 8/6 types. In this paper, not only the design of these three types of SRM, but also their performances are compared for the application of automotive cooling fan. The design parameters are calculated and selected by some constraint equations to match the requirements of the application. Finite Element Analysis(FEA) is used to analyze the characteristics of the designed motors. The experiments are executed to test the inductance, torque, and efficiency of these three types of SRM. The performances of the proposed motors are analyzed and compared. 12/8 type SRM is selected for the fan application because of efficiency as well as vibration and noise.
