Abstract :
A new approach to making high-resolution estimates of two-dimensional (2-D) directions of arrival (DOA) of multiple narrowband sources for a rectangular sensor array is presented. By fully using the properties of the autocovariance and cross-covariance matrices, the authors construct a new matrix called the generalized DOA matrix method. Theoretical analysis shows that 2-D signal direction vectors may be obtained from the eigendecomposition of the generalized DOA matrix. Without 2-D searches, the method is highly efficient in computation. Simulation results are given to illustrate its good performance
