Abstract :
The JVT/H.264 video coding standard achieves considerably higher coding efficiency than previous standards. Unfortunately this comes at a cost in considerably increased complexity at the encoder mainly due to motion estimation and mode decision. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to jointly optimize motion estimation and mode decision. Simulation results show that we achieve up to 90% complexity reduction while maintaining coding efficiency.
