Abstract
Human interaction with computers, in spite of the widespread use of online help, is often frustrating and unproductive. Why? Because the focus has been on the technology, not on the rhetorical nature of humans. By observing how users engage in dialogue with other people and with computers, interface designers may get closer to designing more effective computer tools, tools much better suited to human action
