Abstract :
In this paper we investigate the impact of tapered lines on the bandwidth of tunable matching networks. In particular we demonstrate that tapered transmission lines can improve impedance coverage bandwidth to more than 2:1 compared to conventional transmission lines. A matching network with nearly constant impedance coverage from 2 to 4 GHz is designed as a vehicle to demonstrate these concepts.
