Abstract
Most of current cellular networks are designed for transmitting packet data and voice services. Several types of traffic such as voice, WAP, Web, FTP and E-mail with different ON/OFF distributions have to be supported by these networks. It is therefore important to know their performance in such systems. In this paper we develop a performance analytical model which takes into account the different types of traffic and a finite number of users generating ON/OFF sessions in a cell. In particular it takes into account the realistic behavior of the user when he generates finite length sessions. The main contribution of this work is the presentation of performance model based on Continuous-Time Markov Chains (CTMC) which their insensitivity is proved analytically. The closed form formula deduced from the model is used to evaluate the various parameters of quality of service, such as, the radio resource utilization, the average throughput and the blocking probability.
