  • Abstract
Although celebrated as a key enabling technology for Software Defined Radios, Digital Signal Processing is usually not considered as eligible to benefit from the software standardisation efforts conducted in standardisation bodies for SDR emergence. This paper presents an innovative software architecture for Modem and Audio applications embedded in Digital Signal Processors, which enables to benefit from the important gains standardisation of APIs can bring. The selected approach has been to focus on DSP world state-of-the-art software technologies and technical culture to answer in a pragmatic manner to the needs of SDR revolutionary waveform / platform technical model. Focusing on characterisation of APIs providing to signal processing applications complete abstraction from platforms, the architecture identifies the Services for Waveform Applications with Platform Independence (SWAPIs) notion as the most critical convergence point to be reached to achieve portability and reconfigurability on Digital Signal Processors. Information on the current topics investigated in PEA AL programme are provided, with mention of the works currently conducted to reduce the distance between this SWAPI architecture and SCA recommendations.
