Abstract
This work presents the results of a detailed theoretical and experimental analysis of an elementary switched power conditioning system with unity power factor. The line current stays sinusoidal and in phase with the bus voltage while its amplitude can be varied within a wide range. The introduction of a Penalty Factor (cents/kWh) enabled to define the most cost effective operation in the context of a given resistive load and maximum allowable amplitude of the ripples in the line current.
