Abstract
The effect of a joule heating of small protrusions (whiskers) on the temperature distribution of the field emitter is theoretically examined. We obtained the temperature distribution in the emitter as a function of the whisker number and the scales ratio of the basic protrusion and the whisker. It is shown that the heat production in the whiskers can be dominant at the heating of emitting surface.
