Abstract
In late 1988 a research working group drawn from government, industry, and academia was established to develop the concept for an advanced driver information system (ADIS) for deployment in North America early in the next century. At the last of three meetings of the ADIS Working Group the concept for a mature, top-of-the-line ADIS for the year 2005 was spelled out in some detail. It includes the ADIS functions, vehicle equipment, infrastructure, evolution, standards, regulatory issues, major R&D needs and principal directions for the next five years. These are described in the present excerpt from the proceedings of the Mobility 2000 IVHS Workshop held at San Antonio, TX, in Feb. 1989.<>
