Abstract
The successful colonization of implants for the replacement or repair of damaged tissues requires the control of cellular processes, such as adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. However, this ambitious goal is hard to achieve since different cell types show contrary reactions to specific biomaterial features. The current study shall make a contribution to improve the understanding on cell-material interaction using nanosphere lithography to design regular nanostructures that can be functionalized with different bioactive cues. The precise control of nanostructure dimensions and surface chemistry provides a means for comparative studies on reactions of different cell types to topographical and chemical cues and may contribute to the development of biomaterials that stimulate the activity of cells in the desired way.
