Abstract :
Cost efficiency in projects for industrial control systems must be improved. Not only theoretical issues, such as mathematical modeling, are important, but also engineering aspects for proper development, operation, and maintenance have to be considered. In particular, uniform models and methods for development of control systems are needed. In this paper, a structured concept for iterative and incremental development of industrial control systems for power networks, so called SCADA/EMS systems, is proposed. It is based upon an object-oriented approach, which has impact on all the phases of specification, design, and implementation, when developing such a system. Effective addition of new functionality, refinement of the existing one, and/or modification of the internal structure of a control system are supported. The transformation between the design and implementation becomes well known, and the transformation between the specification and the design is facilitated. This will simplify mappings of user and process requirements into the control system
