Abstract :
The performance of an optical disk drive or hard disk drive is critically limited by the design of the bearing. To achieve both requirements of high precision and low cost of spindle motor, a single-phase winding and fluid dynamic bearing are implemented here. There is a comparison with the porous sleeve bearing, which shows that the combination of a single-phase winding and fluid dynamic bearing could be a better choice.
