Abstract
By the help of remote sensing techniques, urban growth of Shenyang was monitored. On the one hand, multisource and multi-temporal images were classified into two classes, built-up area and non-built-up area. Then urban expansion was depicted clearly during the past 28 years. On the other hand, NDVI data from 1999 to 2007 were processed to indicate the change of vegetation, which would be affected by urban growth. Furthermore, policy, GDP and population data were collected to explain the results.
