Abstract :
A novel strategy for monitoring the state of power transformer windings by the online measurement of short-circuit reactance is studied on a model transformer under laboratory conditions. The results and their comparisons with those obtained in out-of-service condition show that the online method is able to detect short-circuit reactance variations with a high degree of accuracy, precision and good stability, and therefore can be used for diagnosis of deformation in the transformer windings. The changes of the operation condition of transformer and the external factors, such as the field interference, do not exert an effective influence on the results
