Abstract
In the rapidly developing countries, there is an obvious trend of increasing utilisation of underground HV cables rather than overhead lines. The requirement of safe and reliable cable operation calls for a sound and extensive knowledge in the condition monitoring and maintenance of power cables. In this paper, are presented some important condition assessment techniques approved in industrial practices in Singapore and Australia will be discussed including partial discharge (PD) detection and location, DGA incipient fault diagnosis, hotspot detection, mitigation and dynamic rating management and destructive/non-destructive tests for distribution cables.
