Abstract
Reactive power compensation is considered to be very essential to support and stabilize the voltage of buses within permissible limit. The problem of reactive power compensation can be divided into three parts: planning, expansion and control. Planning means setting of the location and magnitude of reactive power compensation resources in the electrical systems. Expansion means pursuing the changes for the reactive power requirements along time. Control means the operation method to realize better standards. This paper explains the use of Genetic Algorithm (GA) Technique to solve the problem of optimal location and size of reactive compensation in Mosul ring buses. The results are compared with available studies solving the problem using conventional methods.
