Abstract :
A computer-controlled microwave vector network analyzer used in a microwave laboratory course is presented. After a description of the students´ background and the equipment used, case study results are described for a group of students that participated in the computer-directed laboratory experiments. The system used can be considered as simply a program to control the network analysis system, which has a little more than the minimal amount of coaching and on-screen explanations needed to let an experienced user obtain data. However, to qualify as a tutorial, perhaps it needs to present more of a dialogue, interacting more with the users and branching in response to their entries. However, it is maintained that the system with associated notes that are purchased system forms a true computer-based tutorial on the operation of a system of computer-interfaced equipment; it takes advantage of the instructional capabilities of the computer to train students in the operation of the equipment
