Abstract :
The design of high power HVDC cables is a challenge. The field and space charge distributions over the insulation thickness, which somehow control the cable behaviour and its life expectancy have never been measured up to now and the cable. designer can only rely on models and calculations. In this paper, the authors relate, for the first time, space charge measurements made on cables while they are energised and loaded. They used the thermal wave method for this measurement.
