Abstract
There are a number of local, state and federal incentives currently available to promote the use of electric vehicles. The hybrid electric vehicle has emerged as the best solution in today´s automotive world of limited power plant performance. The buried magnet brushless DC motor provides an excellent performance platform for an HEV electric traction drive. This paper will describe general performance tradeoffs of this motor type and the early test results in a Honda CRX automobile.
