Abstract :
One of the major causes of power system voltage collapse is the reactive power limit of the system. Improving the system´s reactive power handling capacity via flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices is a remedy for prevention of voltage instability and hence voltage collapse. This paper discusses the influence of a multilevel STATCOM employed in an EMTDC simulation network and its associated mathematical model. The paper, then discusses the effects of STATCOM on some of the network´s online voltage collapse indices.
