Abstract :
A Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulation system of the Diesel Generator Set (DGS), which can be used to develop and debug electronic speed governors, is developed in this paper. In the HIL simulation system, the physical diesel is replaced with its mathematical model. And the electronic speed governor, electric actuator and speed pickup are physically installed in the HIL simulation system. A DC LVDT displacement sensor linked with the electric actuator is used as the rack displacement input of the diesel model. An AC servomotor system is employed to imitate the output (rotational speed) of the diesel. Thanks to the input-output measurements on a physical DGS, the static and dynamic characteristics of the diesel model established by means of NARX (Nonlinear AutoRegressive with eXogenous inputs) is very close to ones of the physical DGS. The simulations and experiments show that the diesel model can well reproduce both the static and dynamic characteristics of the diesel. The algorithm of identifying the diesel model and the method of estimating the quantity of the model are also discussed in details. The experimental results show that the HIL simulation system can well simulate the loading or unloading process of the DGS. It is a noiseless, zero-emission and very low energy consumption platform for developing and debugging electronic speed governor.
