Abstract :
Post seals for large stationary flooded cells can be divided into three major types: mechanical (or compression), epoxy, and vulcanized rubber-bonded. The latter type, developed and refined at C&D, finds extensive use in many of our long-life designs. In te mid 1980s, an intensive program began at C&D to evaluate these major types of post seals and conduct a parametric investigation for each type. Since that time accelerated tests have been performed and results documented on over three hundred different seal prototypes. Some of the early results and associated conclusions have been documented in an earlier publication. This paper discusses the detailed results and life projections from this extensive effort.
