Abstract
GSM (and other) radio networks have conflicting requirements regarding availability of the network and infrastructure cost. While desiring a maximum availability of the network to ensure maximum revenue generation, it is often found to be uneconomical to increase the availability of the network using traditional methods. Failure of primary and secondary power to equipment is one of the predominant causes of network unavailability. This article describes a new power system topology which cost effectively improves the availability of remote sites in a GSM Radio Network.
