Abstract :
At present, the increasing size, distribution and heterogeneity of Internet, more and more diverse measurement tools, and users´ application requirements make integrated network measurement important in resolving these fundamental problems of network measurement. A good choice for integrated network measurement is policy methodology. In this paper, as a policy definition language for integrated network measurement, General Ruleset Language (GRL) is proposed. Network Measurement Policy provides a scheduling and controlling mechanism of network measurement, which is independent of network measurement tools and applications. GRL defines a network measurement policy as a set of ECA(event-condition- action)-based scheduling rules. The formal definition and syntax of GRL are presented in this paper. Finally, the implementation and two typical examples of GRL are also given to show that GRL and the policy-based scheduling mechanism meet the requirements of integrated network measurement.
