Abstract :
In this paper, a novel microstrip patch antenna structure with frequency reconfigurability is proposed. By tuning the characteristics of the EBG substrate instead of the antenna, the resonant frequency of the patch antenna can be switched or dynamically controlled. This EBG-patch antenna structure is analyzed through 3D full-wave simulations and synthesized by a full cross-section eigenmode (FCS-EM) analysis. Full-wave EM simulation and the experimental measurement results will be discussed.
